Loki the Trickster (a figure from Norse mythology) was the half brother of Odin and responsible for the death of Baldaur. Like its namesake, the looks of this spindle are deceiving.
This ancient style I found very satisfying, its domed shape keeps the beauty of the wood in the forefront. Masur Birch, a stunning species of wood grown only in Finland, really shows itself off in this historical design.
This Spindle spins fast and long, perfect for fine fibers such as cotton, cashmere, fine wools, and especially silk. The Loki is sold in weight measurement rather then whorl diameter. We use a full selection of different woods and laminate in addition to our favorite Masur Birch. Since the woods used have such a large diversity of density, weights range from .8 to 1.5 ounces.
